Allegiant Air route cuts 2026 turned out bigger than most travelers expected. Comparing the July 2026 schedule to July 2025, the airline quietly cut 61 routes from its network, exited seven airports entirely, and walked away from Los Angeles International Airport after 17 years there. Why Is Allegiant Cutting So Many Routes?

Two separate things are happening here, and it helps to keep them apart. The first is the LAX exit, which appears to be cost-driven. A spokesperson told the aviation outlet Cranky Flier that rising costs tied to capital improvement projects at LAX, including roughly $50 more per passenger compared to other airports in Allegiant’s network, pushed the airline out.

The second is routine network pruning, which is normal for Allegiant’s business model. As an ultra-low-cost carrier, Allegiant tests thin leisure routes a few times a week and drops the ones that don’t fill seats. Most of the longest, lowest-performing routes on the cut list, including several LAX connections, had already been losing frequency for months before the official cut.

This isn’t a sign of financial trouble. Allegiant’s average load factor across cut routes was still a healthy 91%, well above the industry average, and the airline reported strong first-quarter 2026 earnings while also closing its acquisition of Sun Country Airlines. This is a reshuffle, not a retreat.

The Big One: Allegiant Leaves LAX For Good

Fourteen of the 61 cut routes trace directly back to the LAX exit. The affected cities are Bellingham, Cedar Rapids, Cincinnati, Spokane, Grand Rapids, Indianapolis, Little Rock, McAllen, Northwest Arkansas, Omaha, Sioux Falls, Springfield, Tulsa, and Wichita.

Florida Took the Biggest Hit — But Allegiant Isn’t Leaving

Thirty-four of the 61 total cuts are in Florida, spread across eight of the twelve Florida airports Allegiant serves. A handful of markets lost their only nonstop with no replacement showing up anywhere: Palm Beach to Indianapolis is gone entirely (it carried over 57,000 round-trip passengers but was only filling about 62% of seats), and Bismarck, Bangor, Flint, and Traverse City all lost their only nonstop option from certain Florida airports.

That sounds dramatic, but the bigger picture tells a different story. Allegiant announced eight new nonstop Florida routes for fall 2026 back in May, including Fort Lauderdale to Boston, Fort Lauderdale to Pittsburgh, and Orlando Sanford to Trenton, with Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and Kansas City service starting in October 2026. Add it up, and Allegiant actually expects roughly 5% more Florida flights in the back half of 2026 compared to the same period last year. The airline is concentrating capacity on stronger routes, not pulling out of the state.

What To Do If Your Allegiant Flight Was Cancelled

1. Log into your reservation directly at Allegiant.com rather than relying on memory. Some of these changes already took effect as early as April 2025, while others are still rolling out through the July 2026 schedule.
2. If Allegiant cancelled your flight outright, you’re entitled to a full refund. You don’t have to accept whatever alternate date or routing they offer if it doesn’t work for your trip.
3. If you were flying out of LAX, check Burbank and Orange County before giving up on Allegiant entirely. Several of the cancelled LAX routes are still running from those nearby airports.
4. Search for the same route on Breeze or JetBlue before booking a multi-stop connection elsewhere. A few of Allegiant’s old markets, especially in Florida, already have a direct replacement.
