Disney Wish Cruise Packing List: What to Bring, What to Skip
For the Disney Wish cruise, pack your passport, Key to the World lanyard, multiple swimsuits, reef-safe sunscreen, a portable charger, a non-surge-protected power strip, magnetic door decorations, and an extra card for the stateroom light slot. Pack themed outfits for Pirate Night. Leave steamers, irons, surge-protected power strips, and any open food containers at home.
Packing for the Disney Wish is not the same as packing for a regular cruise, and it’s definitely not the same as packing for a Disney parks trip. Your stateroom is compact but smartly designed, the days swing between island excursions and pool decks and formal rotational dining, and a few items that seem obvious to bring are actually prohibited. On our Disney Wish sailing, I quickly learned what actually earned its bag space and what I should have left at home.
Here is the complete Disney Wish cruise packing list, organized by category, with the things that genuinely made the trip easier and the ones I would skip next time.

Before You Pack: Disney Wish Cruise 2026 and 2027 Bookings
Disney cruise bookings for 2026 and 2027 are running significantly higher than previous years, driven partly by interest in the new Disney Destiny ship (the newest ship in the Disney Wish class, launching in late 2025) and partly by families rescheduling cruises that were delayed during the pandemic years. If you are booking a Disney Wish sailing this year, itineraries fill faster than they used to. The Disney Wish operates primarily out of Port Canaveral, Florida, with Bahamas and Caribbean routes that include stops at Disney’s private island, Castaway Cay.
What Goes in Your Embarkation Day Carry-On
Your checked bags may not reach your stateroom until late afternoon. Keep these in your carry-on so embarkation day actually works:
- Passports or IDs for every person in your group
- Disney Cruise Port Arrival Form with QR code
- Prescriptions and any daily medications
- Swimsuit and coverup for everyone – the pools open as soon as you board
- Reef-safe sunscreen (required at Castaway Cay)
- Portable charger, cables, and earbuds
- Key to the World lanyards, tap-and-go is significantly easier than digging in a bag
- Any allowed carry-on beverages (adults 21+ may bring up to 2 bottles of wine/champagne or 6 beers on embarkation day, in carry-on only)
- Snacks in factory-sealed packaging for the kids if needed during the wait
The Disney Wish (and all Wish-class ships) requires a card in a wall slot to keep the lights on in your stateroom. Most guests use their Key to the World card, which means the lights go off the moment someone takes the card to leave. Pack an extra card — an expired gym membership, an old hotel key, any card will work and leave it permanently in the slot. You will thank yourself on day one.
Clothing: What to Pack for the Disney Wish
The Disney Wish has three rotational dining restaurants: 1923 (the fanciest, cruise-casual dress code), Worlds of Marvel (casual, superhero costumes are welcome), and Arendelle: A Frozen Dining Adventure (casual, princess dresses are a hit). There is no strict formal night, though Palo Steakhouse and Enchante do recommend semi-formal or formal attire. Pack one outfit per day on the ship, plus one dinner outfit per night.
| Category | What to Pack | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Swimwear | 2-3 swimsuits per person | Suits take time to dry – one is never enough for back-to-back pool and island days |
| Cover-ups | 1-2 per person | Disney Wish deck gets hot and the floors can be rough on bare feet |
| Dinner outfits | One per night, cruise-casual minimum | Pack one slightly nicer outfit if you have a Palo or Enchante reservation |
| Pirate Night | Pirate costume or themed accessories | DCL provides a bandana in your room but bringing your own gear is part of the fun |
| Port days | Casual outfit plus water shoes | Water shoes matter more on the Disney Wish than on older ships – the deck runs hot |
| Evenings on board | Light layer or cardigan | Indoor areas and dining rooms are air-conditioned and noticeably cold after a warm island day |
| Kids’ costumes | Disney character outfit or princess dress | Characters appear throughout the day – kids in costume get extra attention at meet-and-greets |
The Gear That Actually Earns Its Space
Non-surge-protected power strip or USB hub — staterooms have very few outlets for a family traveling with multiple devices. Disney prohibits surge-protected power strips, but a standard non-surge power strip or a quality USB charging hub is allowed and saves significant frustration every evening. If you want to know exactly where the outlets are in each room category before you pack, see our Disney Wish deck plans guide — stateroom layouts vary by category.
Magnetic hooks and door decorations — stateroom doors are metal, and the Disney Wish cruising community has made door decorating an art form. Strong magnetic hooks let you hang items on the door, in the bathroom, and on the walls without damaging anything. Over-the-door hangers are prohibited.
Reef-safe sunscreen — Castaway Cay and several other ports require reef-safe sunscreen to protect marine ecosystems. Non-reef-safe products are not allowed on the island. Supergoop PLAY SPF 50 is reef-safe, water-resistant for up to 80 minutes, and works on both face and body. Pack it from home — onboard prices for sunscreen are significantly higher.
Reusable water bottle — the Disney Wish has refillable water stations throughout the ship. A Hydro Flask 18oz keeps drinks cold through full island days at Castaway Cay and eliminates the constant grab for single-use cups.
Waterproof dry bag — for Castaway Cay and any snorkeling or water excursions, a Sea to Summit Lightweight Dry Sack keeps phones, wallets, and snacks protected. A plastic bag is not the same thing once you are actually on the water.
Night light — Disney Wish staterooms go completely dark when the lights are off. Children (and adults) navigating to the bathroom at night in pitch black on a moving ship is more difficult than it sounds. A small plug-in night light prevents the problem entirely and takes up almost no luggage space.
Autograph book and thick marker — if you have kids, character meet-and-greets happen throughout the cruise. Characters sign faster and more legibly with a thick Sharpie than a thin ballpoint pen. Pack the book in your carry-on so it is ready from day one.
Kids headphones — staterooms are small and shared, and other guests in adjacent cabins will hear everything. LilGadgets Untangled Pro headphones are volume-limited for kids’ hearing safety, connect via Bluetooth or 3.5mm cable, and have a SharePort feature that lets multiple kids listen from the same device without a splitter.
Portable charger — a quality portable charger keeps everyone’s devices running through full port days without hunting for an outlet. Wi-Fi onboard the Disney Wish is available but sold separately – download any shows or movies at home before you sail.
What to Pack for Kids on the Disney Wish
The Disney Wish has dedicated kids’ club areas and an extensive character experience schedule. Kids attending the clubs can check themselves in and out with their Key to the World card once they are old enough and parents have authorized it. Pack for the kids with this in mind:
- Extra swimsuits (kids rotate through pools, splash areas, and Castaway Cay multiple times per trip)
- Rashguard for sun protection during extended pool and beach days
- Comfortable water shoes for Castaway Cay — the sand path to the beach is long and can be hot
- Autograph book and Sharpies for character signatures
- Small backpack they can carry themselves for island days
- Headphones for tablets — staterooms are small and shared, and other guests will appreciate it
- Disney costumes or themed outfits for Pirate Night and character meals
- Any medications, including motion sickness remedies — even calm-water Caribbean sailings can catch kids off guard
What Not to Bring on the Disney Wish
Disney Cruise Line’s prohibited items list is enforced at embarkation. Bringing any of these results in confiscation:
- Irons, steamers, or any heating appliances
- Surge-protected power strips (non-surge standard strips are fine)
- Candles, incense, or open flames of any kind
- Hot plates, rice cookers, toasters, or microwaves
- Weapons, knives, toy guns, or drones
- Over-the-door hangers or any adhesive that could damage the stateroom walls or door paint
- Homemade, perishable, or open food containers
- Hard liquor or excess alcohol beyond the allowed limit
Adults 21 and older may bring up to 2 bottles of wine or champagne (750ml each) or 6 beers (12oz each) per person at embarkation and at each port of call. These must be in carry-on bags, not in checked luggage. Hard liquor is not permitted. Duty-free alcohol purchased during the cruise is held and returned on the final night.
What to Leave Behind
The Disney Wish staterooms provide shampoo, conditioner, body wash, soap, and lotion. You do not need to pack full bottles of these. Beach towels are provided by DCL at each island stop, you do not need to pack your own. The ship’s restaurants cover all main meals and most snacks, so elaborate food-packing is not necessary beyond a few sealed snacks for embarkation day waiting.

Frequently Asked Questions: Disney Wish Packing List
The Disney Wish cruise packing list comes down to a few things that genuinely matter: reef-safe sunscreen, multiple swimsuits, an extra card for the stateroom light slot, a non-surge power strip, magnetic hooks, and pirate night gear. Everything else is standard travel packing with some Disney-specific additions. Overpack the swimsuits, underpack everything else, and leave the steamer at home.
